II. Answer to Question:

Q: How do I find a business idea that I won’t give up on?

A: While we have a certain amount of motivation and willpower, it’s actually a resource we use up during the day. You can think of it like a battery. During the day, you have many small things to do that actually cost you willpower without noticing it, such as picking up the phone even if you don’t want to or even getting out of bed instead of sleeping for another 1 or 2 hours. So this willpower or motivation is not really a reliable source (even of motivation seems to be a huge field for many speakers, it’s scientifically proven that it’s simply a resource we’re using up during the day).

Now we can talk about habits. Yes, they will enable you to go far beyond your motivation and push through even though it’s hard. But even with solid habits, we’re going to hit a limit at some point.

When I started my personal development journey, my coach introduced me to the DILTS pyramid. If you’ve participated in the Launch QuickStart series, you already got an introduction to it, so I’ll keep it short:

The DILTS pyramid is a concept that helps us understand our personality by dividing it into seven layers. For now, we’re only looking at two of them: core beliefs and values.

Identity beliefs: How do you define yourself?

Example: "I am someone who does XYZ."

Values: Things that are important to you.

Example: Freedom, Fairness, Love, and so on.

Your business idea needs to align with these things for you to have the least resistance. If you want to build a business that doesn’t align with your values, you’re going to start self-sabotaging subconsciously. You might feel like you’re betraying your soul for money or not feeling like yourself anymore.

Building a business that strengthens your positive self image, that is aligned with your values will release much more motivation than any “hack” you’ll find.

Then habits can help you build that business consistently.

III. Question for you:

What are your identity beliefs? How do you define yourself and what values are importantly to you?

Right them down just for yourself to step-by-step create the clarity you need to build a business that doesn’t feel hard but gets you excited to wake up and get going every single day.
